President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the United States and its allies seek to wage a new war in the region in a bid to break down the Islamic resistance. President Ahmadinejad made the remark in a Wednesday meeting with Grand Mufti of Syria Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun. He said that the main purpose of the hegemonic and bullying powers is to salvage Zionist regime, adding that they do not seek the prosperity of nations and merely take advantage of every opportunity against the regional people. Iran’s chief executive also noted that regional nations need to stand up to the hegemonic powers by maintaining unity and exercising prudence. The Iranian president also criticized certain regional rulers for assisting Western powers in their quest for domination, and pointed out that the hegemonic powers have managed to advance their policies by the help of these rulers. The Syrian mufti, for his part, hailed the Islamic Republic’s policies and praised Iran as a symbol of unity and solidarity in the Islamic world.
