OIC chief warns against any insane move on Iran
IRIB News
The secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has warned against a military strike against Iran, saying such a move will engulf the whole region in flames. I have repeatedly warned Western officials that any aggression or strike against Iran will be a kind of insanity and open hell’s gate to the region, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said in a meeting with Hamid Reza Dehqani, Iran’s permanent ambassador to the OIC on Wednesday. He also condemned the Western sanctions against Iran over its nuclear energy program and said they could not affect the Islamic Republic. Iran’s OIC envoy, for his part, praised the organization’s stance on the challenges facing the Islamic world. Dehqani, however, called for a more active role of the OIC in settling issues and encouraging more cooperation among the member states. The United States, Israel, and some of their allies accuse Iran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program, with Washington and Tel Aviv using this pretext to threaten Iran with a military option. Over the past few months, Israeli officials have ratcheted up their war rhetoric, threatening Iran with measures beyond diplomacy or sanctions to force Tehran into abandoning its nuclear energy program. Iran rejects allegations of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
