گرمایش زمین: گسترش آتش در کشورهای حاشیه مدیترانهیونان، ترکیه، ایتالیا، لبنان، اسپانیا، قبرس و الجزایر درگیر آتشسوزی جنگلها و مراتع طبیعی هستند. برخی از آنها به تازگی موفق به مهار قسمتی از آتشسوزیها شدهاند. جمعه و شنبه ۱۳ و ۱۴ اوت/۲۲ و ۲۳ مرداد دمای بسیار شدید هوا در بخشهایی از فرانسه و پرتغال پیشبینی شده است. در روزهای گذشته ایتالیا گرمترین دمای هوای ثبتشده در تاریخ اروپا را شاهد بود.
آتشسوزیها در الجزایر از دوشنبه هفته جاری آغاز شد و جان ۶۹ تن را گرفت: ۴۱ شهروند غیرنظامی و ۲۸ سرباز کشته شدند. در پی کشته شدن دهها تن در آتشسوزیهای الجزایر، سه روز عزای عمومی اعلام شده است.
